Johnny Thunders, born John Anthony Genzale on July 15, 1952 in Queens, New York, was an American guitarist, singer, and songwriter whose music spans rock, punk rock, glam rock, glam punk, and proto-punk. He formed the New York Dolls in 1971 with Arthur Kane, Billy Murcia, Rick Rivets, and David Johansen, recording the albums New York Dolls (1973) and Too Much Too Soon (1974). He went on to form the Heartbreakers with former New York Dolls drummer Jerry Nolan and former Television bassist Richard Hell, later joined by Walter Lure and Billy Rath; the band toured the UK alongside the Sex Pistols, the Clash, and the Damned on the Anarchy Tour.
