The Definitive Book on the Most Storied Garment in Sport!

Imagine holding a book so visually rich, so steeped in tradition and athletic glory, that you can almost smell the varnished wood of a boathouse and hear the splash of oars on a misty morning river. That is Rowing Blazers — now revised and expanded, and more essential than ever.

Written by Jack Carlson — champion rower, Oxford-trained archaeologist, and founder of the acclaimed New York clothing brand Rowing Blazers — this landmark volume is the ultimate insider's guide to one of fashion's most distinguished and underappreciated garments.

~ About the Book:

Classic American style was born in British boathouses. The very first blazers were made for college rowing clubs, and their elaborately striped, piped, trimmed, and badged designs have carried the prestige of athletic excellence ever since. Rowing Blazers tells that story in breathtaking detail — through 375 stunning color photographs that transport readers to the atmospheric boathouses, campuses, and team rooms of rowing clubs around the world.

This revised and expanded edition features many clubs and teams not included in the original, including:

  • Shanghai Rowing Club and Buenos Aires Rowing Club

  • Nassau Rowing Club (Bahamas) and Partez Rowing Club (Japan)

  • University of Washington — recently featured in George Clooney's film The Boys in the Boat

  • University of Pennsylvania and University of Texas

  • Manley Career Academy High School (Chicago) — home of the nation's first all-Black high school rowing team

  • Prep schools including Groton and Deerfield

  • Row New York and London's Fulham Reach Boat Club — programs championing diversity, access, and inclusion

  • Olympic rowing champions from Britain, Germany, South Africa, the United States, and more

~ Why You Need It:

There is no other book like this. Rowing Blazers sits at the rare intersection of sport, fashion, history, and visual art. It is the kind of book that gets passed around at dinner parties, left open on a coffee table for guests to discover, and returned to again and again. Whether you rowed at university, love the aesthetic of classic prep style, or simply appreciate extraordinary bookmaking — this is a must-own.
