~ A Brief History of CBGB:

CBGB & OMFUG (which stood for "Country Bluegrass Blues and Other Music For Uplifting Gormandizers") was a legendary music club that opened in 1973 at 315 Bowery in Manhattan. Founded by Hilly Kristal, it famously became the birthplace of American punk rock and new wave, though that wasn't the original intention. While struggling to book its namesake genres, the club became a vital incubator for raw, groundbreaking acts like The Ramones, Talking Heads, Blondie, Television, Patti Smith, and The Dead Boys.

The club's gritty, DIY atmosphere—with its famously filthy bathroom, layers of stickers, and iconic spray-painted logo—became a symbol of a musical revolution. For over three decades, it was a hallowed ground where future legends cut their teeth. CBGB closed its doors in 2006 after a dispute with its landlord, but its legacy as the "undisputed birthplace of punk" lives on forever in music history and now, on this iconic onesie.
